The Cairn of Change:

Change is the heartbeat of living systems and has five phases: (1) the Status Quo, interrupted when Destabilizing Events cause one to (2) Fall into the (3) Pit of Change where order and opportunity emerge and Transformational Ideas direct us towards (4) The Road Back, the journey of integration that brings the system to (5) a Future Status Quo. There are also three exit points – Aborted Change, Failed Change, and Failed Return – that occur when we don’t have the courage, heart, or stamina to move through the change cycle completely. This journey is based on the metamorphosis of the caterpillar to a butterfly, hence Metamorphic Change.
